A Decade of ANTS, celebrating 10 YEARS STRONG

As we celebrate a decade of music and togetherness, let’s take a look back at the incredible journey and amazing community that has grown to become the global phenomenon that is ANTS.

In the beginning there was ANTS. Starting as an event for Ibiza’s workers community at Ushuaïa Ibiza. ANTS was founded with a vision to give back to the people who worked so hard throughout the summer to make Ibiza the ultimate destination for electronic music lovers.

Right from the start, many of the extended ANTS family were present on our lineups, including residents Andrea Oliva and Francisco Allendes, plus guests such as Ilario Alicante, Hot Since 82, Joris Voorn and Maya Jane Coles.

The Colony expanded rapidly as regular special guests Kölsch and Yosef made their ANTS debuts. The Danish melodic kingpin and English Circus Records boss would return to grace our stage for the next 9 years.

Our third season brought more growth to the Colony with the launch of ANTS TOUR. Starting with BPM Mexico, we hosted 10 thrilling events at the world’s finest clubs and festivals, including EXTREMA in Belgium and The Netherlands, Creamfields UK, ADE in Amsterdam and STATE in Buenos Aires before closing out the year at Miami's STORY. That year we also welcomed the third member of our residents team, Saved Records boss Nic Fanciulli.

The ANTS phenomenon continued as we took over The Warehouse Project Manchester, Fabrik in Madrid and Tazmania Ballroom, Hong Kong. We also hosted stages at Electric Zoo New York and London’s SW4. Back in our Ibiza home, Eats Everything, Groove Armada and Sasha made their ANTS debut.

For our fifth birthday we focused on our underground origins with a stripped-back DIY aesthetic and the punk-tinged tagline of God Save the Queen. Our hand-drawn chalkboard posters showcased exciting debuts from Cassy, Heidi, Solardo and more. 2017 also saw the ANTS march into Tomorrowland for the first time, hosting a stage across both weekends of the Belgium mega festival.

As ANTS Hacked the System and cemented our reputation as the most exciting place to dance to underground electronic music, we hosted some world-class special guests, including Adam Beyer, Apollonia, Luciano and Richie Hawtin.

2019 saw some very exciting ANTS debuts, including The Black Madonna, Loco Dice and Skream. That year was also the first time our superstar resident, Chelina Manuhutu, stepped into an ANTS DJ booth. Our amazing new stage production inspired by the Fritz Lang film, Metropolis - this is when the ANTS experience went to the next level.

Our most ambitious production to date, the ANTS Invasion saw a b-movie sci-fi aesthetic descend on Ushuaïa Ibiza as a killer queen from outer space crash landed into the ANTS nest, and the Invasion began. A visually stunning display accompanied each performance, and the fifth member of our ANTS residents team debuted, UK sensation SYREETA.

ANTS 10 YEARS STRONG has a laser-focus on the future, welcoming the very best in fast-rising and pioneering new talent and genres. Brazilian hitmaker Vintage Culture will join Andrea Oliva, Chelina Manuhutu, Francisco Allendes, Nic Fanciulli, and SYREETA to complete our team of six residents championing the underground sounds of ANTS. Debuting and returning world-class special guests such as Boris Brejcha, Loco Dice and Paul Kalkbrenner (live) will play alongside cutting-edge new talent including East End Dubs, Melanie Ribbe and Tini Gessler to showcase our revitalised soundtrack.
